Model Specific Information

The Canadair CL-44 is a a four-engined, turboprop-powered passenger and cargo transport. Three versions of the CL-44 were produced: the CL-44-6 Yukon military transport; the CL-44D4 swing tail civil transport, and the CL-44J, a stretched version of the D4. One D4 was converted into a special Guppy version.

The 44J was a D4 stretched 4.62 m (15 ft. 2 in.) making it the largest aircraft ever built in Canada. Four CL-44Js were supplied to Loftleidir Icelandic Airlines for use on the New York-Iceland-Luxembourg passenger route. The first 44J flew on November 8, 1965 and was delivered to Loftleidir on March 13, 1966.
